Tesla update for the Model Y with ambient lighting, new wheels and more power in China!

As some have certainly already noticed, Tesla has in China the Model Y refreshed it with some new updates to make it currently a bit closer to the new Tesla Model 3 "Highland" and the new Cybertruck and to close the current gap. Presumably, Tesla is trying to improve the Model Y to let it appear fresher for the transition period, until like with the new Model 3 a revised version replaces the current model. According to initial speculations, this could be the case under the codename "Juniper" around the end of 2024. Despite the relatively small updates, the innovations are definitely worth mentioning. So far, these innovations are only available for the Chinese market. When and whether these changes will also be offered for other markets cannot be said at the moment.

Dashboard and ambient lighting: The wood veneer trim of the dashboard of the Model Y has been removed and replaced with a textile trim, similar to the new Model 3. Along the trim and halfway up the front doors, Tesla has introduced RGB ambient lighting.

Hubcaps: The hubcaps on the new Model Y are no longer traditionally silver-colored, but black. We cannot yet say what the rims will look like underneath.

Performance: Tesla has reduced the 0 to 100 km/h time for the standard version of the Model Y improved. According to Tesla, the Model Y reaches 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds with this update.

FSD hardware: According to Teslarati, Tesla China's customer support team has confirmed that the updated Model Y does not include FSD hardware 4.0.

Although many consider this update to be the Model Y was not expected, it is very important in view of the excitement about the new Model 3 is not surprising. This shows us that the update for the Model Y may not be coming as soon as originally speculated. The update is visually striking, but rather insignificant and can be implemented without major changes to Tesla's production lines. This small update for the Model Y does not include some of the larger updates for the Model 3, such as ventilated seats, improved interior materials, or exterior visual upgrades.
