Tesla expands vehicle visualizations: Cybertruck & Trailer

Tesla is working on an exciting innovation for in-vehicle visualization – and this innovation mainly affects the Cybertruck and trailers. In a recently released statement by Wes Morrill, the lead engineer of the Cybertruck, it was hinted that Tesla plans to integrate more detailed representations of Cybertrucks in its displays in the near future. At the same time, trailers should also be depicted more precisely, so that they no longer appear as generic "truck" symbols, but are recognizable in their specific form and function.

New Visualization Features: More than Just Color

As early as 2020, Elon Musk hinted that Tesla would work on displaying all vehicles in their correct colors to improve the user-friendliness of the FSD display. However, too much color information led to visual clutter, which is why Tesla is now pursuing a more targeted approach.

  • Cybertruck Representation:
The Cybertruck visualization will be clearly recognizable in the future – with specific details that distinguish it from other vehicle types.

  • Trailer Rendering:
Trailers should also be precisely depicted in the visualizations, so that their special features – such as size and shape – are highlighted and provide drivers with important information.

This expansion of visual representation can help make the FSD system and, for example, Actually Smart Summon function even more efficiently and safely, as critical objects are more precisely identified and categorized.

Technical Optimizations and User Comfort

The optimizations in in-vehicle visualization aim to further improve the accuracy and user-friendliness of the FSD system. Tesla uses a complex system that quickly compares objects based on their shape, which can sometimes lead to unexpected representations – for example, people with shopping carts sometimes appear as motorcyclists. With the new visualizations, these inaccuracies should be reduced and important objects such as Cybertrucks and trailers clearly highlighted.

In addition, the differentiation in visualization should not only increase safety but also enhance driver comfort by allowing critical elements to be recognized more quickly without having to rely on generic symbols. Depending on the MCU used in your Tesla, this functionality may vary, but most newer vehicles should benefit from the improvements.

Outlook

With these new visualization features, Tesla once again demonstrates that it consistently works to improve the integration of technology and safety. The more precise representation of Cybertrucks and trailers could not only enhance the functionality of the FSD system but also serve as a basis for further innovative features like Actually Smart Summon. Tesla thus remains a pioneer in the development of autonomous driving technology and continues to set standards for the industry.
