Tesla brings regular Model Y to North America – Launch Series is discontinued

Tesla has officially introduced the regular version of the new Model Y in North America, thus ending the sale of the more expensive Launch Series. From now on, North American customers will receive the new Model Y Long Range – a major step that facilitates access to a more modern and competitive electric SUV.

New Milestone in North America

Originally, the updated Model Y was introduced in January in China and other Asia-Pacific markets. A few weeks later, the market launch followed in Canada and the USA – however, only the luxurious Launch Series models were available there so far. These were attractive in price due to the extensive equipment but also more expensive than comparable configurations in other markets.

With the current change, Tesla has updated the online configurator and removed the Launch Series from the range. Instead, the regular Model Y Long Range is now offered.

  • Pricing:
In Canada, the price starts at C$69,990, while in the USA, US$48,990 is required – both prices are about 1,000 units (C$/US$) above the entry price of the older Model Y.

  • Trim Variants:
Currently, only the Long Range model is available. Trim options like Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Performance are not offered at the moment, so customers must adjust to a focused product range.

New Benefits and Improvements

In addition to the relaunch of the regular Model Y, Tesla also brings further improvements:

  • Including Mobile Charger:
While the Mobile Charger was introduced as optional equipment in 2022, it is now again included as standard in the purchase price. This means that customers receive a complete charging package right away, making everyday life easier.

  • Cost Efficiency:
Even though the Launch Series model was considered a good option for many because it was already equipped with extensive features, the new pricing structure now results in comparable configurations that would cost almost C$95,000 in Canada and around US$65,000 in the USA – provided all options would have to be purchased separately.

Conclusion

With the introduction of the regular Model Y Long Range and the end of the Launch Series in North America, Tesla not only lowers the entry price for the popular electric SUV but also adapts the offering to the global market. This step facilitates access to modern electromobility in North America and makes Tesla more competitive by focusing on a clearer and more focused product line.
