September, the last month of the 3rd quarter, once again brought many deliveries, as is typical for Tesla. Exactly how many new registrations there were in the previous month can be seen at the beginning of the new month on the page of the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). Quite surprisingly, there was an electric car at the top of all registered vehicles last month for the first time. This was the Tesla Model Y and that wasn't enough, because the Tesla Model 3 also dominated in its vehicle class. The Tesla Model 3 had the most new registrations in the middle class. The SUV segment was led by the Tesla Model Y.
According to the KBA, 9846 Model Ys were newly registered in September, followed by the VW Golf, which is available as a maximum of partially electric, with 7095 new registrations. The Model 3 came in eighth place in the monthly evaluation with 3,878 newly registered vehicles, behind the Opel Corsa with 4,139 registrations. Especially at the end of the quarter, the number of new Tesla registrations often skyrockets. Tesla announced some time ago that it wanted to deliver its vehicles more continuously.
But even when looking at new registrations since the beginning of the year, it becomes clear that Tesla dominates the electric vehicle segment. Here it is also clear that the Tesla Model Y is the best-selling electric car in Germany. Since January we have counted a total of 22,555 registrations. The Tesla Model 3 has a total of 15,901 new registrations in 2022.
Basically, there is a clear upward trend in the registration of electric vehicles in Germany. In September, a total of 44,389 of the newly registered vehicles were purely electrically powered. This corresponds to 19.7% of all registered vehicles in September.
