Volkswagen: Access to the Tesla Supercharger network from June 2025

Volkswagen is taking a major step towards charging flexibility: from June 2025, owners of Volkswagen electric vehicles (EVs) in North America will have access to the Tesla Supercharger network. This announcement, made during CES 2025 in Las Vegas, marks another milestone in the collaboration between automakers to promote electric mobility.

Volkswagen catches up with the competition
Mark Gillies, PR Director of VW Group of America, confirmed the plans and explained that Volkswagen drivers will be able to charge their cars with an official Supercharger network from summer 2025. VW adapter Tesla will be able to use Superchargers. Volkswagen will thus join the list of car brands such as Ford, General Motors, Rivian, Volvo, Polestar and Nissan which already have access to Tesla's fast-charging network.

Adapter solution as a transition
Until new Volkswagen models from 2026 with NACS connections (North American Charging Standard), owners will have to resort to adapters. Volkswagen is currently working on finding reliable suppliers and manufacturers for these adapters. However, there are already third-party adapters, such as those from A2Z, which can be used immediately.

The pricing of the official VW adapter remains unclear for the time being. Rivian offers its adapters free of charge, while other brands such as Ford charge around 230 US dollars. It remains to be seen which route Volkswagen will take.

Why did it take longer for Volkswagen?
Volkswagen's later integration into the Tesla-network is linked, among other things, to the company's participation in Electrify Americaa competing charging network. As a result, Volkswagen did not officially launch the NACS standard protocol officially adopted.

Despite this delay, the move ensures that Volkswagen owners will benefit from the broad availability and reliability of the Tesla Supercharger network. With over 45,000 Supercharger stations worldwide is Tesla the leader in charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.

Conclusion
With access to the Tesla Supercharger network, Volkswagen is taking a significant step towards further improving the charging experience for its customers. From summer 2025, drivers of VW electric vehicles will be able to access one of the most reliable and widespread charging infrastructures. Going forward, it remains exciting to see how Volkswagen will further expand the integration and benefit from this partnership.
