Tesla lowers Supercharger prices in Canada: record use of the network

Tesla has lowered the prices at its Supercharger stations in Canada while usage of the network in North America has risen to a record high. The changes include both price reductions and increases, depending on the region.

Over Thanksgiving weekend, the Supercharger network in the US and Canada recorded 12 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity consumption in just one day - an impressive figure that represents six times the amount of 2019.

Price adjustments: Regions at a glance

Tesla is pursuing a strategy with the price changes that passes on cost efficiency directly to customers. Here are the most important adjustments:

Price reductions

  • Nova Scotia: The price on New Minas Supercharger dropped from 0.71 CAD/kWh to 0.63 CAD/kWh (11 %).
  • Quebec: Most stations reduced prices to 0.40-0.42 CAD/kWhpreviously approx. 0.50 CAD/kWh.
  • British Columbia: The Supercharger in Revelstoke lowered the prices of 0.40 CAD/kWh to 0.36 CAD/kWh.

Price increases

  • Saskatchewan: In Saskatoon, the prices of 0.56 or 0.59 CAD/kWh to 0.63 CAD/kWh.
  • Alberta: Stations in Kananaskis increased from 0.42 CAD/kWh to 0.47 CAD/kWh.

Some regions such as Ontario recorded only minimal changes, such as a reduction of 0.45 CAD/kWh to 0.44 CAD/kWh in Kitchener.

What is behind the adjustments?

Tesla justifies the price reductions with increased cost efficiency. Similar reductions were reported in Europe and the USA, in some cases by up to 0.10 €/kWh. The price increases in certain regions could be due to local conditions such as electricity tariffs or network expansion.

Record usage and reliability

The record usage of the Supercharger network shows Tesla's progress in the charging infrastructure:

  • Increasing efficiency: More stations and faster charging speeds improve user experience.
  • High availability: The network has a uptime of 99.95 % - virtually trouble-free despite increasing demand.

Conclusion: Tesla remains a pioneer in charging infrastructure

With targeted price adjustments and increasing usage, the company underlines Tesla its leading position in the field of electromobility. For drivers, this means not only cost savings, but also greater reliability and efficiency.
