Tesla Model S after 400k km: Is the car still worth it today?

Tesla Model S after 400k km: Is the car still worth it today?

A road trip that pushes the limits of Tesla Model S

The Tesla Model S has changed the world of electric mobility - but how does a vehicle with almost 260,000 miles (approx. 418,000 kilometers) on the clock perform today? A road trip through the UK provides the answers. Starting in Exeter and ending in London, the Model S shows just how durable Tesla's battery technology really is.

A milestone in electromobility: the Tesla Model S

Since its market launch in 2014, the Model S has been considered a pioneer in electromobility. While other electric cars such as the Nissan Leaf or the Renault Zoe offered shorter ranges, the Model S set new standards at the time:

  • 300 miles of range on a single charge.
  • Fast charging with over 100 kW - revolutionary at the time.

The question remains: How has this technology proven itself after a decade?

260,000 miles and still going strong: the test conditions

The Model S 90D tested was driven by Tesla-engineers and frequently used on Superchargers charging stations - a heavy load for the battery. Nevertheless, the road trip impresses with these results:

  • 84% battery capacity of the original battery is still available.
  • One range of around 200 miles (approx. 322 km) is realistic even after nine years.
  • The average efficiency was 3.3 miles per kWh.

The charging experience: from Exeter to London

The road trip started in Exeter at a modern Tesla Supercharger with 32 charging points. After a full charge, the vehicle displayed a range of 230 miles.

The route:

  • From Exeter via the A303, past sights such as Stonehenge.
  • The destination was the Westfield Shopping Centre in London, a historic location for Tesla-fans, as this is where the first British Tesla-store was opened here.

Despite hilly roads and additional detours, the Model S reached its destination with 11 % remaining chargewhich impressively demonstrates the longevity of the battery.

Longevity of the Tesla-batteries: A conclusion

The test shows that even a highly loaded Tesla Model S still offers a range suitable for everyday use after almost 260,000 miles. The advantages:

  • Low maintenance thanks to long-lasting batteries.
  • Software updates over the yearsthat keep the vehicle always up to date.

For owners of a Tesla Model S, this is confirmation that investing in an electric car with first-class battery technology offers long-term benefits.

An outlook: The future of Tesla and electromobility

With new models and technologies Tesla a pioneer in electromobility. For those who value quality and innovation, the Model S will remain an exciting option in 2024 - especially for long-distance drivers.
