Already early Tuesday morning, numerous Tesla owners in Western Canada reported outages with Premium Connectivity. Music streaming, live traffic data, and some remote functions via the Tesla app were unavailable. Unlike previous disruptions, this issue does not seem to be related to a new firmware version, but rather with the mobile provider Telus.
Outage in Western Canada
Reports accumulated from around 5:30 AM (local time), and affected regions extended to Saskatchewan. Further east (Ontario and beyond), there were no issues. The local concentration of the outages suggests that it was not Tesla's vehicle software, but the LTE network that was responsible.
Current Situation
While some owners now have a stable connection again, others are still reporting outages. The disruption seems to be improving, which suggests that Telus is gradually resolving the issue.
Premium Connectivity – what is it?
The Tesla Premium Connectivity package is a subscription (in Canada $13.99 per month before taxes) that goes beyond standard connectivity. It enables, among other things:
- Real-time traffic data for navigation
- Satellite view in maps
- Streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, or Spotify
- Live camera function for Sentry Mode
Due to the outages in Western Canada, drivers were temporarily unable to access these additional features.
