Tesla has announced the winners of the Supercharger voting for the third quarter of 2024. This is the latest round of the innovative voting program, in which Tesla-drivers worldwide have the opportunity to have their say on future Supercharger locations. Although the quarter is not quite over yet, the Tesla the winners have now been officially announced.
The Supercharger voting program has been in place for several years and usually runs on a quarterly basis. However, the current round was launched in January 2024 without announcing a winner in April. One possible reason for the delay could have been the dismissal of the entire Supercharger team in the spring, which led to organizational problems. After months of uncertainty Tesla finally published the results - but not as expected.
Where are the new Supercharger locations?
Unlike in the previous rounds of voting, the Tesla did not publish a specific list of the winning locations this time. Instead, the new Supercharger locations were added directly to the map of planned Superchargers. Owners therefore had to discover the new locations themselves by searching the map.
In North America, Canada still had the best rankings in the last round of voting, but this time the country did not do quite as well. Nevertheless, there are two new locations in Canada: Lake Louise in Alberta and Saint-Sauveur in Québec. However, neither location has a fixed opening date yet. Tesla has recently updated its status information on the map so that new Supercharger locations are now marked as either "under development" or "under construction".
Oddities in the voting round
However, some of the results of this round are causing confusion. For example, the Lake Louise site, which has now been announced as the winner, was not even part of the vote. In addition, several other Canadian locations such as Ucluelet and Campbell River (both on Vancouver Island) as well as Gatineau in Quebec and Tobermory in Ontario had strong rankings but were not announced as winners. These discrepancies raise questions about the exact voting process.
The winning locations in North America
Despite these discrepancies, the following US locations were identified as the winners of the Supercharger vote for the third quarter of 2024:
- Hershey, Pennsylvania
- Southern Pines, North Carolina
- Brent, Florida
- Murfreesboro, Tennessee
- Galveston, Texas
- Durango, Colorado
- Escalante, Utah
- Prescott, Arizona
These locations are now part of Tesla's growing Supercharger network, which is one of the largest charging infrastructures for electric vehicles in the world. Tesla has announced that new rounds of voting for future locations will soon begin in North America and the Asia-Pacific region. However, voting is currently only open in Europe.
