Tesla: Two recalls due to software problems

Tesla is facing two recalls worldwide, both caused by software problems. Several models are affected and the problems range from driver assistance systems to the reversing camera.

Recall in China: driver assistance system and door locking system

The Chinese market supervisory authority has issued a large-scale recall for the Tesla-S, X, 3 and Y models. A total of around 1.6 million vehicles produced between August 2014 and December 2023 are affected. The problems affect the automatic steering assistance and the door lock control system.

Tesla-However, customers in China do not have to go to the workshops. Instead, the affected vehicles will be updated with a new software version over-the-air (OTA). The updates are provided by Tesla-offices in Beijing and Shanghai to rectify the problems.

Recall in Germany: failure of the reversing camera

In Germany Tesla 1,274 vehicles (6,765 worldwide) of the S, X and 3 models built in 2023. These vehicles are equipped with the FSD computer 4.0, which has a problem with the reversing camera. When reverse gear is engaged, the camera does not display an image. The cause is a faulty protocol in the integrated circuits.

Affected vehicles require an update to software version 2023.44.30.7 or higher. No service appointment is necessary here either. The recall is listed in the database of the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) under the reference number "13540", with the manufacturer code "SB-24-00-002". Tesla-Drivers can find out more on the service page of Tesla to check whether their vehicle is affected by entering the vehicle identification number.

Tesla The German carmaker has thus demonstrated its ability to resolve many problems via OTA updates, which simplifies the process for customers. It remains to be seen how effective these measures will be in practice and whether further updates will be necessary.
