Tesla surprises with new paint finish for the Model Y refresh
Tesla has a new Model Y Juniper 2025 has not only introduced a facelift, but also a new paint color called "Glacial Blue" was presented. Glacial Blue: Unique look, but not a multi-coat?
The new Glacial Blue is in some ways reminiscent of the well-known Quicksilverbut is lighter and bluer than all previous paint colors from Tesla. The most important differences to multi-coat paints such as Quicksilver or Cherry Red:
- No metallic undertoneThe color is less reflective and offers no iridescent effects.

- Not from the Giga Berlin paint shopQuicksilver and Cherry Red are produced in Berlin using advanced paint technology - Glacial Blue, on the other hand, appears to be a simpler paint variant.
The first photos, taken in China, show that Glacial Blue is a completely new design direction for Tesla could represent.
Price: This is how much Glacial Blue costs for the Model Y Juniper
Tesla offers the color at different prices depending on the market:
- Australia: Free of chargeSince Tesla a limited time offer for all colors of the Model Y Juniper offers.
- China & Asia-Pacific: 1,100 US dollarsthe same price as for Pearl White Multi-Coat.
- Europe & USA: No price details yet, but probably similar to China.
The premium paint finishes Quicksilver and Flame Red on the other hand, cost 50 % morewhich is a further indication that Glacial Blue is not produced as a multi-coat lacquer.
Tesla Model Y Juniper already with 50,000 pre-orders
Despite the unanswered questions surrounding the paint finish, demand for the Model Y Juniper is enormous: Within 24 hours of the launch, there were already 50,000 pre-orders in China. The first deliveries are due to start there in March.
With the new color Glacial Blue Tesla offers a further opportunity to Model Y individual design - even if the texture of the paint does not appear to be the elaborate multi-layer technique of previous premium colors.
