Tesla now also protects service vehicles with activated Sentry Mode

After a wave of vandalism on Tesla vehicles and locations, Tesla is responding with a security measure: From now on, Sentry Mode will also be activated on vehicles that are located in service centers, showrooms, or in delivery preparation. The goal is to better protect both customer vehicles and Tesla's own fleet through permanent video surveillance.

Background: Vandalism against Tesla on the rise

In recent weeks, there have been repeated targeted attacks on Tesla vehicles – both on private vehicles and on Tesla locations such as Superchargers, showrooms, and workshops. Vehicles that were particularly affected were those parked for repair or shortly before delivery.

Incidents also caused a stir internationally, including in Canada, where over 80 Teslas were damaged on a service site.

New measure: Sentry Mode for service and showroom vehicles

Elon Musk announced that Tesla will now activate Sentry Mode on all vehicles located on Tesla premises – including:

  • Service Centers
  • Tesla Collision Center (Body & Repair)
  • Showrooms
  • Delivery Hubs & Delivery Parking Lots

This means that each of these vehicles will automatically be equipped with Tesla's surveillance system as soon as it is parked. The vehicles record continuously as soon as they detect a threat – a clear deterrent effect.

Small challenge: Higher power consumption

The Sentry Mode requires continuous energy. According to Tesla, each vehicle needs to be recharged about once a week to maintain the function. This means additional effort for Tesla employees until a software update further optimizes the system's energy consumption.

No active protection – but valuable evidence

It is important to know: The activated Sentry Mode does not prevent attacks in real-time , as alarm or music is currently not triggered. But it reliably documents potential vandalism via video, so that Tesla and vehicle owners can subsequently file a report and identify offenders.

Just the information that Tesla vehicles record even when stationary could already deter many vandals.

Rollout in Europe as well?

So far, it has not been officially confirmed whether the measure will be implemented worldwide. However, given the international incidents - particularly in Canada - it is to be expected that Tesla will introduce the Service Mode Sentry outside the USA as well. For European locations, especially with heavily frequented service centers, this would be a sensible step towards more security for Tesla customers.

Conclusion: Tesla relies on deterrence through transparency

By activating the Sentry Mode on showroom and service vehicles, Tesla makes it clear: Security does not stop at private vehicles. Anyone approaching a Tesla - whether in the parking lot or in the workshop - should be aware: You are being filmed.

A clever and consistent step that shows: Tesla listens to its community - and is upgrading not only technically but also in the area of security.
