On Friday we wrote about the delivery wave at the end of the second quarter. But on Saturday (June 25, 2022) the bad news came for many pickers. Tesla had to cancel delivery for the time being and postpone it until the end of July due to quality problems and subsequent improvements to the inverter, the rear drive unit (rear motor). But there is no precise information here either, because according to internal statements, the part must first be procured and then replaced. Unfortunately, the problem cannot be solved with a simple and usual software update. The exact procedure is also not yet known. Estimated repair time is 3 to 4 hours and should be done at the service center.
But between the many cancellations, there are also deliveries that are being made and the Tesla Model Y Performance is not affected by this issue. Accordingly, there will be defective parts from a specific supplier or batch. No scheme can be derived from the chassis numbers. Based on a survey in the TFF (Tesla Drivers and Friends Forum), a survey was started, chassis numbers with the end number between 8200 and 10,100 are affected. In between there are always vehicles that are subject to a quality defect.
One of the members of the TFF forum wrote that according to a Tesla employee, Model Y Performance that has already been delivered are probably also affected. There was no feedback on Saturday about cancellations for the Model Y Long Range, which is still coming to Europe from China.
