Tesla released FSD V13.2.1: New features and optimizations

Tesla released FSD V13.2.1: New features and optimizations

Tesla recently released the latest version of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, V13.2.1, with software update 2024.39.15. This version brings exciting new features and improvements available on all Hardware 4 (HW4) vehicles, including Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y and, for the first time, the Cybertruck. Find out what features FSD V13.2.1 offers and what the future holds for Tesla's FSD technology.

New functions in FSD V13.2.1

Start FSD from the parking position

One of the most important new features is the function to start FSD directly from the parking position. This allows drivers to enter their destination and have the vehicle navigate automatically from the parking position. This feature, known as "Unpark", makes driving easier and more efficient.

FSD able to drive in reverse

With the new version, FSD can also drive in reverse for the first time. The system switches seamlessly between forward, reverse and park mode, making maneuvering and complex driving situations such as three-point turns easier.

Automatic parking at the destination

FSD now navigates to a free parking space when reaching the destination, if one is available. Future updates should allow drivers to more precisely define the desired behavior at the destination, e.g. parking in a garage or on the side of the road.

Special features for the Cybertruck

Although FSD V13.2.1 brings many of the new features for the Cybertruck, some functions such as "Unpark" and "Supervised Start FSD from Park" are missing. These limitations could be due to the larger vehicle size of the Cybertruck and the associated challenges. Improvements such as optimized camera cleaning and a revised controller for more precise motion control are to follow in future updates.

Planned improvements for FSD

Tesla plans numerous other optimizations for FSD, including:

  • Improved audio input for the recognition of emergency vehicles
  • New navigation optionssuch as parking in garages or at the side of the road
  • Improved map and navigation display for more efficient route planning
  • Optimization for camera view obstructions and incorrect braking

These planned functions illustrate Tesla's focus on a fully autonomous driving experience.

FSD and Hardware 3 (HW3)

HW3 vehicles will remain with older FSD versions such as V12.5.4.2 for the time being, as the new version was developed for the more powerful HW4 systems. Tesla has announced that a hardware upgrade may be available for HW3 vehicles if FSD with HW3 does not meet the requirements for "Unsupervised FSD". For HW3 drivers, the hope remains that Tesla an adapted version of FSD V13 will be developed in the future.

Conclusion

FSD V13.2.1 shows that Tesla once again shows how consistently the company is working on the further development of its autonomous driving technology. The new features and planned improvements make it clear that Tesla is making great progress on the road to full autonomy. The integration of functions for the Cybertruck and the further development for older vehicle generations remain particularly exciting.
