Tesla has once again proven that it is at the forefront when it comes to efficiency and range. In a comprehensive range test conducted by the British car magazine What Car? the Tesla Model 3 Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) was crowned the king of efficiency. This test underlines the outstanding performance of the Model 3 compared to other electric vehicles in different price categories.
The range test by What Car?
What Car? conducted a real-world test in which 11 new electric cars and a nine-year-old Tesla Model S with over 400,000 kilometers on the clock were involved. The method was simple: all vehicles were fully charged and driven until the battery was empty. The aim was to determine the actual efficiency and range of the vehicles under real-life conditions.
Tesla Model 3 outperforms the competition
The Tesla Model 3 RWD proved to be the most efficient vehicle in the test. It covered 410 kilometers and achieved an impressive average of 7.08 km per kWh (equivalent to 4.4 miles per kWh). In comparison, the Audi Q6 e-tron Launch Edition only 4.83 km per kWh (3.0 miles per kWh). These differences in efficiency also have financial implications: According to What Car? drivers of the Model 3 about 508 pounds for electricity every 10,000 miles, while drivers of the Q6 e-tron spend about 745 pounds would have to pay.
Efficiency gains in importance
Steve Huntingford, editor-in-chief of What Car?emphasized the increasing importance of efficiency in electric cars: "A few years ago, when electricity was cheap and any electric car was significantly cheaper to run than a comparable petrol or diesel model, efficiency didn't seem so important. But with rising energy prices, it is now an important factor."
The veteran: Tesla Model S continues to impress
Particularly noteworthy was the performance of the nine-year-old Tesla Model S with a mileage of over 400,000 kilometers. Despite its age and high mileage, the vehicle made it, 343 kilometers kilometers. It even outperformed two brand-new electric cars in the test: the Peugeot e-308 SW (341 km) and the Mini Cooper SE (339 km).
The test of What Car? shows impressively that Tesla is not only a leader in terms of innovation and technology, but also in terms of efficiency and durability. For you as a potential buyer of an electric vehicle, these are decisive factors, especially in view of rising energy prices.
