Tesla is already planning to expand the site in Grünheide, shortly after the opening of the new Gigafactory Berlin. This information has been known for a long time, but now it is official. On Wednesday, May 25, 2022, Tesla submitted an application to change the development plan for the additional 100 hectares. According to the mayor of Grünheide, Arne Christiani, this was received on time. To get a size comparison, the current built-up area is 300 hectares. According to Arne Christiani, the municipality of Grünheide will already be dealing with Tesla's application in the main committee on June 2nd, 2022. It will probably take a good year for the change to be approved. No further production building is planned for this area. Tesla would like to continue investing in the infrastructure here. A larger parts warehouse and a freight depot are planned, through which material can be brought to the factory and finished electric cars can be transported away more quickly. The planned parts warehouse in particular is an important point for the future. In the future, Tesla will no longer be dependent on just-in-time deliveries and spare parts for damaged vehicles can be delivered more quickly. Tesla is also planning additional parking spaces on the new property.
