Tesla changes the standard color for the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y in America from Pearl White Multi-Coat to Midnight Silver Metallic. This means the most affordable change in color choice in America is now Pearl White Multi-Coat for a $1000 surcharge. After initially being Solid Black at model launch, the standard color was changed to Pearl White Multi-Coat for most markets in summer 2019. Only in China was the color black retained.
The change in the standard color applies to the volume models Model 3 and Model Y and for these not only for the U.S., but also for Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico, summarized as North America, according to the configurator. For the premium electric cars Model S and Model X, on the other hand, white remains the standard option for the time being and "Midnight Silver Metallic" continues to cost $1,500 extra.
In the Tesla configurator for European countries, nothing seems to have changed in terms of the standard color. Model 3 and Model Y as well as Model S and Model X will continue to be sold in "Pearl White Multicoat" at no extra charge. After the current color change in America, Tesla now has different standard colors in a total of three regions. White in Europe, gray in North America and black in China.
