5-star safety rating for the new Tesla Model S in the Euro NCAP crash test.

5-star safety rating for the new Tesla Model S in the Euro NCAP crash test.

Just a few weeks ago, the Tesla Model Y shone with top marks in the Euro NCAP crash test. But the new Tesla Model S, which is currently on its way to Europe, also gets very good marks and a 5-star safety rating.

The Tesla Model S achieved a 98 percent rating in the Safety Assist category. This category assesses a vehicle's ability to avoid accidents, minimize injuries to occupants and bystanders outside the vehicle, and prevent lane drift. The adult occupant protection category achieves a rating of 94 percent, 3 percent lower than the recently tested Model Y. The child occupant protection category scored 91 percent, 4 percent more than the Tesla Model Y. This is a very high level given the rigorous testing process. The institute rates pedestrian safety at 85 percent. Unlike the Model Y, Model S has an "active" hood. Sensors in the bumper detect when a pedestrian has been hit, raising the bonnet to clear the fixed structures below. Tesla has shown that the system works reliably with different pedestrian sizes and speeds.

The new Tesla Model S from America was also equipped with the vision-only system, which works exclusively on a camera-based basis without radar. As with the Model Y, this system works excellently and is praised. The Model S mastered all of the tested incidents superbly and brought them to a standstill in good time. A detailed list of the tests and the video of the test can be found on the Euro NCAP crash test page.
