Tesla has announced plans to significantly expand its Supercharger network in Canada in 2025. Planned are over 50 new locations with more than 630 charging pointsspread across the entire country. Tesla Responds to rising demand
In December Tesla record demand for its Supercharger stationswith a projected global consumption of over 20 gigawatt hours (GWh) per day. In Canada, particularly in the provinces of British Columbia, Ontario and Québec, the increasing number of electric vehicles and cold temperatures led to waiting times at charging stations.
In response to this Tesla announced a comprehensive expansion of the Supercharger network to meet the increasing demands and shorten charging times.
Overview of the planned expansions
The expansion stretches from the West Coast to the East Coast of Canada, including remote areas and smaller communities. Here are some highlights of the expansion:
British Columbia (150+ charge points at 17 locations)
- North Vancouver and AbbotsfordNew 20-stall locations.
- Kelowna, Langley, Hope and Surrey: 16 stables each.
- Vancouver Island (Tofino)12 stalls at a new location.
- Smaller communities like Burns Lake, Smithers and Prince Rupert also benefit from new stations with 4 stalls each.
Alberta (56 charging points)
- New locations in Calgary, Lethbridge, Grande Prairie and Wandering River.
- Special feature: A new connection is created between Fort McMurray and other locations.
Ontario (190+ charging points at 20 locations)
- BramptonLargest location with 24 stalls.
- MississaugaThree new locations with 8, 20 and 24 stalls.
- Other cities: London, Ottawa, Vaughan, Waterloo and Ajax.
Québec (80+ charging points)
- Large installations in Laval, Montréal and Mont-Royal with 16 to 20 stalls per site.
- Smaller municipalities such as Gatineau, Saint-Sauveur and Alma get new charging stations.
Eastern Canada
- St. John's (Newfoundland and Labrador)4 new stables to improve coverage in remote areas.
Aim of the expansion
Tesla of this expansion is to accelerate the transition to electromobility by improving the charging infrastructure for existing and future Tesla-owners will be further expanded. By expanding the charging capacities will reduce longer waiting times and increase user-friendliness - especially in rural or remote areas that were previously less well served.
