Tesla Semi: New plant in Nevada - A look at the Gigafactory

Tesla is planning a new plant for semi trucks in Nevada: A step towards the future?

Tesla once set itself the goal of revolutionizing mobility for the benefit of the environment. However, the implementation of semi trucks has so far fallen short of expectations. Now a new plant in Nevada is set to finally remedy the situation.

A promise with delays

Tesla announced the Semi Truck back in 2017, which was due to come onto the market in 2020. In fact, only a few units were produced by the end of 2022, some of which were delivered to PepsiCo. In January 2023 Tesla announced the construction of an extension to its Gigafactory in Nevada to speed up production of the Semi Truck.

Progress on construction

The first activities at the site were recorded at the beginning of 2024. Tesla announced in April 2024 that the new plant should be completed by 2025 and that production could start at the end of the year. Whether this goal will be achieved remains uncertain given the current progress.

A first look at the future plant

Dan Priestly, head of the Tesla-Semi program, published a photo of the future factory site and a computer-generated render of the Semi Factory. The image shows the impressive size of the planned production halls. According to Tesla the Semi Factory will produce 50,000 trucks per year in the future.

Conclusion

While Tesla has big plans for the production of semi trucks, it remains to be seen whether the company can achieve its goals on time. The coming years will show whether Tesla can deliver on its promise to revolutionize freight transport with electric trucks.
