The Tesla Model Y is being revised
For almost five years, the Tesla Model Y on the market - without any major updates. But in 2025, the popular all-electric mid-size SUV is to be comprehensively revised. The first prototypes, known under the project name "Juniper", have now been spotted in Europe. The images suggest exciting new features.
What is known so far?
The Tesla Model Y has enjoyed great popularity worldwide since its launch in 2020. Nevertheless, it has been somewhat outdated compared to the competition in recent years. The facelift aims to change this and Model Y bring it back to the top of the mid-size SUV segment. The visible changes to the design, which can be seen for the first time in new prototype photos, are particularly striking.
Design updates:
- Revised front end reminiscent of the larger Model X, possibly with integrated Tesla-logo.
- A continuous light strip is expected at the rear, replacing the previous C-shaped rear lights.
- New, streamlined and more aggressive look, similar to the facelift of the Model 3 „Highland" from 2023.
Technical innovations:
- Range of more than 560 kilometers thanks to a new battery pack and a more efficient electric motor.
- Introduction of an 800-volt system (as in the Cybertruck) that enables 30% faster charging at Tesla's V4 Superchargers.
- Optimized rims and tires for better energy efficiency.
Interior:
- Simplified cockpit with higher quality materials and new comfort features.
- "Smart Shift" control, which automatically selects the direction of travel.
- Replacement of the steering wheel levers with haptic switches and physical buttons.
Production to start soon
According to reports, mass production of the new Model Y in January 2025 in the Tesla-Shanghai plant in January 2025. The new series will also be produced in Grünheide near Berlin and in the US factories in California and Texas. With the changes Tesla not only the Model Y modernize, but also to keep up with new competitors such as the electric Porsche Macan Turbo.
