An affordable Tesla? The new model takes shape
Tesla is working flat out on a new entry-level modelwhich is known internally as Project Redwood or "Model Q". The aim is to bring an affordable electric vehicle onto the market that costs less than USD 30,000. While Tesla's Model 3 currently starts at USD 42,490, the Model Q could be a real game changer with a price of around USD 30,000.
Price and start of production
According to Travis AxelrodTesla's head of investor relations, the Model Q is scheduled to go into series production in June 2025.
- Post-subsidy price: Under USD 30,000.
- Comparison: 12,000 USD cheaper than the Model 3.
- target: 500,000 vehicles per year with a production of 10,000 units per week.
Tesla plans to produce the new vehicle on existing production lines, which should enable a smooth introduction.
Technical data and variants
The Model Q will be 15 % smaller and 30 % lighter than the Model 3 with a length of around 3.99 meters. Two variants are planned:
- Single-motor RWD: 53-kWh LFP battery, estimated range: 500 km.
- Dual-motor AWD: 75-kWh LFP battery, range still unknown.
The smaller battery size and reduced weight not only make the vehicle more affordable, but also more energy-efficient.
More Tesla-innovations: Project Juniper
In addition to the Model Q Tesla is working on a Model Y refresh with the code name Project Juniper.
- New design: Return to the 7-seat option in China.
- Planned introduction: Early 2025 in China, global market launch by the end of 2025.
The Model Y Juniper will use the latest Tesla-technologies and could set new standards in electromobility.
Conclusion: The Model Q as the future of e-mobility
With the Model Q positions itself Tesla once again as an innovation leader. An affordable price, compact dimensions and an impressive range could change the market for good. At the same time Tesla with the Model Y Juniper on proven models with modern updates.
