Tesla has introduced a significant change to the manufacturing process that will make it much easier for new owners to get started. Vehicles produced at the Fremont plant will now undergo a automatic camera calibration during productionwhich eliminates the need for a post-delivery run-in.
Why is this important?
Previously, new Tesla-owners first had to register their vehicle after delivery. drive 20 to 25 miles (32-40 km)before Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD) could be fully utilized. The reason: The onboard cameras first had to be calibratedby recognizing road markings and adjusting the vehicle's sensors to the surroundings.
In some cases, the calibration process could even take twice as long, especially if the road conditions were not ideal.
Now Tesla removed this hurdle: Camera calibration is completed during the production processprocess, so that vehicles can be tested immediately after delivery. are fully operational immediately after delivery.
How does the new calibration work?
With the new method, the vehicle performs the calibration independently while it is being calibrated after production. drives autonomously across the factory premises. In doing so, it covers a distance of around 2 kilometers on which it moves:
