Tesla has released the latest version of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, V13.2has taken a significant step forward. The new version, which is currently being rolled out to early access testers, brings a host of exciting features, including the ability to start FSD from park mode, park independently and seamlessly switch between forward and reverse driving.
The most important new functions of FSD V13.2
Start FSD from park mode and park independently
A major milestone in FSD development is the introduction of "Parked to Parked". Tesla-Vehicles can now:
- Start from parked modeWith a new "Start FSD" button, the vehicle can drive directly from a standstill.
- Reversing and turningThe system can automatically switch between park, forward and reverse gear to perform complex maneuvers such as 3-point turns.
- Parking at the destinationFSD automatically parks the vehicle near its destination - be it a parking lot, driveway or parking space.
Improved camera usage
For the first time, FSD uses the AI4 cameras (Hardware 4) with higher resolution and 36 images per second. This enables more precise sign recognition and distance measurements as well as optimized decision-making.
Faster decision making
Thanks to improved data processing, FSD now offers a 2x faster response time. This allows the system to detect and react to obstacles more quickly.
Better collision detection and avoidance
With a revised AI model, FSD detects potential collisions even more reliably and can even safely avoid complex situations such as T-bone collisions at traffic lights.
Audio and camera input
Tesla tests the integration of audio signals, for example to recognize sirens from emergency vehicles. At the same time, the system warns of restricted camera vision and assists in cleaning the sensors.
What's next?
Tesla is already working on further improvements for FSD, including
- Optimized navigation and route guidance
- Improved troubleshooting for camera vision problems
- Enhanced parking options
- Hardware upgrade for older models (Hardware 3)
These updates are intended to make FSD even more reliable and user-friendly in the long term.
Availability of FSD V13.2
V13.2 is currently only available for early access testers. A broad rollout to all vehicles with AI4 hardware is expected to take place by Christmas. Vehicles with older hardware (HW3) will have to wait for an optimized update or a hardware upgrade.
Conclusion
With FSD V13.2 Tesla once again shows why it is at the forefront of autonomous driving technology. The new features are a big step towards a fully autonomous vehicle and offer a first taste of Tesla's vision for the future of driving.
