Tesla already had the feature some time ago for iPhone users but Android users had to do without it until now. This is now changing with the new update!
🔹 How does the hands-free trunk work?
Thanks to UWB technology the vehicle recognizes exactly where your smartphone is located. If you are standing with your cell phone in your pocket behind the trunk or frunkit opens automatically - ideal if you have shopping or luggage in your hands.
🔹 Which smartphones support UWB?
Not every Android device can use the feature. UWB is currently only available in some flagship models installed:
✔ Google PixelFrom Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 8 Pro
✔ Samsung GalaxyGalaxy S21+ and newer, S24+ & S24 Ultra
✔ Other manufacturersCheck individually
🔹 Which Tesla-models are compatible?
The function is available for all Model S (from 2021), Model X (from 2021), Model 3 (from 2024), Model Y (from 2025) and the Cybertruck available.
How to activate the new feature
📲 In the Tesla app:
- Open app and to Security & Driver > Phone Key > Upgrade Change
- Activate Ultra Wideband
- Activate hands-free trunk in the vehicle settings
🚗 In the vehicle:
- Navigate to Settings > Locks > Hands-Free Trunk
- Activate feature
- Now you can open the trunk hands-free!
