Tesla reaches 100 million batteries produced: milestone with potential

Tesla has produced its 100 millionth 4680 battery cell - an impressive step forward in battery production for the electric car pioneer. These cylindrical batteries, which were first presented at Battery Day in 2020, are an important step for future vehicle production and especially for the Cybertruck, which uses the 4680 cells as energy storage. Progress at record speed

In June 2023 Tesla produced its 50 millionth battery cell. The fact that a further 50 million cells were added in just 101 days illustrates just how quickly Tesla has expanded its production capacities. With an average production of almost 500,000 battery cells per day, the Tesla, that, despite initial difficulties with the dry coating process for the electrodes, it is well on the way to revolutionizing battery production. The dry coating process is expected to significantly increase production speed and reduce costs at the same time.

Tesla and the Cybertruck: a powerful combination

The Cybertruck, one of the most anticipated models from Tesla, benefits directly from the progress made in 4680 battery production. Currently, each Cybertruck contains around 1,360 battery cells, ensuring a powerful and sustainable energy supply. With the current production of around 2,000 Cybertrucks per week, it is clear that Tesla is making continuous progress. The target of 2,500 vehicles per week by the end of 2024 is within reach, especially as the initial hurdles of the dry coating process are increasingly being overcome.

The future of Tesla-battery production

Although Tesla has not yet fully achieved its production targets, the company is clearly on course for growth. By increasing the production rate and further optimizing the 4680 battery technology, the company plans to Tesla, not only the Cybertruck, but also future models such as the Tesla Model 2 with the high-performance battery cells. The prospect that in the coming years more and more Tesla-vehicles will be equipped with the 4680 cells is a clear signal for the future of electromobility.
