Tesla Energy Update: New functions for improved energy overview

Tesla Energy Update: New functions for improved energy overview

Tesla has been released with the latest Holiday Update 2024 the Energy App has been revised. The changes mainly affect the Consumption tabwhich is now available for the Model S, Model X and Cybertruck is available. At the same time, the functions for Model 3 and Model Y were also adapted. The new features offer simplified operation, optimized range predictions and more detailed consumption data.

The most important innovations in the Tesla Energy app

Range forecast over 200 miles

The energy overview now shows the energy consumption over the last 200 miles (or 300 km). This change offers a more precise range prediction, as short consumption peaks - such as during acceleration - are better balanced out by the average value.
Disadvantage: Drivers who often tow or are on race tracks may find this feature less useful, as it does not provide specific consumption data for shorter distances.

Comparison with EPA values

Another highlight is the new comparison of average fuel consumption values with the EPA standards. This allows you to see immediately whether your driving style is more efficient or more energy-intensive than the standard value. This function is particularly helpful for optimizing your own energy consumption by making small adjustments - for example by accelerating more smoothly or adjusting your speed.

Changes to colors and recuperation

  • Green: Consumption below the EPA rating
  • Yellow: Consumption above the EPA rating
  • Regenerative braking energy: Harder to see because it is factored into the average and is less prominent on the 200-mile timeline.

The uniform color coding now matches the app's Drive tab, but may lack more precise distinctions for regeneration.

Additional improvements

Dynamic Y-axis

The Y-axis automatically adapts to the driving data. This provides a better overview of the consumption values, especially for powerful models such as the Model S Plaid or the Cybertruck.

Total energy consumption

At the bottom of the diagram, the app now shows the total energy consumption for the route traveled so far. This function offers a practical way of tracking the exact amount of energy consumed.

Criticism and potential improvements

Some features of the old version have been removed, including the ability to display fuel consumption data for shorter distances such as 5, 15 or 30 miles. Drivers who need specific driving data could benefit from a user-defined X-axis. A clearer distinction between consumption and regeneration would also be desirable.

Conclusion and outlook

The revised Tesla Energy App makes energy consumption data more accessible and easier to understand for the average driver. Although some detailed functions have been removed, the new features, such as the comparison function with EPA values and the total energy consumptionoffer clear advantages. Tesla-Drivers can stay tuned to see if future updates allow for customization. Stay tuned for the Tesla newsto stay informed about further developments.
