Tesla recalls Cybertrucks due to trim panel issue

Tesla has announced a recall of 46,096 Cybertrucks - and for a safety reason that will surely interest you as a Tesla fan. In this article, you'll find out exactly what it's about, what technical backgrounds play a role, and how Tesla intends to fix the issue.

The Problem in Detail
The recall procedure affects all Cybertrucks produced in the USA between November 2023 and February 2025. The core of the problem lies in the so-called Trim Panel - a stainless steel exterior trim strip that runs along the roofline above the windows.

Root Cause: The Trim Panel is exclusively attached using an adhesive. Over time, this adhesive can become brittle due to 'environmental embrittlement', causing the strip to detach.
Safety Concerns: Shortly after the first deliveries, owners reported loose or detached Trim Panels, which can potentially lead to dangerous situations in road traffic.

The Solution Approach by Tesla
To fix the problem, Tesla plans a fixed modification of the Trim Panel. The new approach includes:

Stronger Adhesive: Tesla will use a structurally better adhesive in the future, which is not susceptible to environmental embrittlement.
Mechanical Reinforcement: Additionally, a stud will be used to securely fix the stainless steel strip to the vehicle structure.
These measures are intended to ensure that the Trim Panel remains stable even under extreme conditions.

Tesla has not yet implemented a fix in production but plans to equip new Cybertrucks with the improved system from March 21, 2025. For already delivered vehicles, the retrofit process will be carried out in service centers - you will need to bring your vehicle to a service center for the retrofit.
