Excitement is building as the countdown to the highly anticipated unveiling of Tesla's Robotaxi on October 10 continues. In recent weeks, there have been increasing sightings of Tesla-test vehicles equipped with unique camera setups have surfaced in recent weeks. These vehicles, which are usually driven on the Model 3 appear to have been specially developed for training the Robotaxi system.
More frequent sightings
More and more members of the Tesla-community are reporting sightings of these special engineering vehicles. A user of the r/TeslaMotors subreddit recently shared photos of a Model 3, that was equipped with a sophisticated instrument rig on the roof. These vehicles, used for testing, have proven to be crucial in the development of the new Robotaxi.
Another notable example is a Model 3, that was spotted on I405 near LAX. The images show that this vehicle is also equipped with a similar camera system to the previously spotted prototypes. These sightings are not new; back in May there were reports of a converted Model 3 with a strange camera setup, prompting speculation about the development of a smaller robotaxi.

Tesla has not yet released exact specifications for the Robotaxi, but it has been confirmed that the vehicle will be manufactured using the next "unboxed" production process. According to Walter Isaacson's biography of Elon Musk, the upcoming Robotaxi will be a two-seater that is significantly smaller than a Model 3 car.
Elon Musk had originally set an unveiling date for August 8, but postponed it to October 10 to make important changes to the vehicle. Musk has also indicated that further innovations will be presented at the event. Production of the Robotaxi will take place at the Gigafactory Texas.
