New environmental bonus for electric cars from 2023!

New environmental bonus for electric cars from 2023!

As early as the beginning of 2022 and the change of government, there was great uncertainty about the “environmental bonus” for electric car purchases. In the short term, the new federal government decided to leave the previous premium regulation for the year 2022 identical. But now the federal government has announced that it will realign the bonus scheme from 2023. Currently, the highest federal share for electric cars is 6,000 euros, for plug-in hybrids 4,500 euros plus the manufacturer's share. In the future, according to initial information, the focus should be sharpened and more attention paid to environmental protection. According to Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens), plug-in hybrids are marketable and no longer need funding. The subsidy rates for purely electric vehicles are to be gradually reduced from 2023, that was already certain. According to current information, the federal share should still be 4,000 euros in 2023, and in 2024 and 2025 it should only be 3,000 euros. In addition, there should be a "funding cap" for a total vehicle price of 65,000 euros gross. Accordingly, for example, a Tesla Model Y Performance would fall out of the subsidy. The minimum holding period for vehicles is to be increased from 6 to 12 months. Beyond 2025 there will be no more subsidies for electric cars. Contrary to the proposals of some associations, the granting of the environmental bonus will continue to depend on the delivery of the electric vehicle. Reserving the bonus after the conclusion of the purchase contract would involve a disproportionate amount of effort. However, the proposals from Habeck's ministry still have to be coordinated. So if you still want to secure full funding, you should look out for delivery in 2022 or buy an electric car that is immediately available.
