The wait is over: Mercedes-Benz is opening up access for its electric vehicles (EVs) in North America to the Tesla Supercharger network. From February 2025, Mercedes drivers will have more than 20,000 Supercharger stations in the USA and Canada. Find out here how this works and what the benefits are for you.
NACS adapter and software update required
Easy integration thanks to adapter
To use the Tesla North American Charging Standard (NACS) Mercedes provides a NACS-to-CCS1 adapter adapter. This adapter is now available from dealers in the USA for 185 US dollars. In Canada, the adapter is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2025, with pricing to follow.
Software update in the workshop
In addition to the adapter, your Mercedes requires a software update. This is only installed at authorized Mercedes workshops. The update activates compatibility with the Tesla-network and supports the practical Plug & Charge-function. You can start the charging process simply by plugging in the cable, without additional apps or maps. Mercedes will contact affected customers directly to arrange appointments.
Access to the Tesla Supercharger network
After installing the software and the adapter, you can use the Tesla Supercharger network seamlessly. Supercharger locations are displayed directly in the Mercedes me Charge app and in the vehicle navigation system. You receive real-time information on charging costs and availability.
With this expansion, the number of accessible charging points for Mercedes-Benz drivers in North America increases to over 110.000. In addition to Tesla this also includes networks such as Electrify America, EVgo and ChargePoint.
Ionna: Mercedes' own fast charging network
In addition, Mercedes is working with partners on the construction of its own Ionna fast-charging network. This is to provide up to 30,000 high-power charging stations in North America, with the first locations scheduled to open this year.
Conversion to NACS connections
From the end of 2025, Mercedes plans to connect all EVs produced for the North American market directly to NACS connections directly. This will make the adapter superfluous. With this step, Mercedes is following other manufacturers such as Ford, General Motors and Volvo, who are using the Tesla-standard as well.
Conclusion
With access to the Tesla Supercharger network, Mercedes-Benz is setting another milestone for convenient charging and strengthening the everyday usability of its electric vehicles. The integration of NACS and the expansion of its own Ionna network will make the charging network for Mercedes drivers in North America even denser and more flexible.
