Tesla's secret plans: FSD V13 & unsupervised driving are coming

Tesla not only caused a stir with the futuristic Cybercab at its recent "We, Robot" event, but also had some surprising news up its sleeve. One of the biggest secrets revealed was the introduction of unsupervised FSD (Full Self-Driving) and the upcoming FSD V13 version.

Unattended FSD: The next step towards an autonomous future

Elon Musk confirmed at the "We, Robot" event that unsupervised FSD is closer than many think. While it has long been considered an ambitious goal, the Tesla working prototypes of this technology for the first time. Musk even gave specific dates and locations.

The first regions in which the unattended FSD will be available are Texas and California, probably from 2025. Initially, the function will be limited to the Model 3 and Model Y with a later extension to the Cybertruck and the S and X models. The Cybercab is not scheduled to go into production until the end of 2026.

With many US states adopting legislation from California and Texas, unsupervised FSD could spread across North America faster than expected. It is quite conceivable that unattended FSD will be available in several US states by the end of 2025.

FSD V13: Reverse driving and new features

Anyone who already uses or has followed FSD knows that the system is not yet capable of reversing independently. This will change with the introduction of FSD V13. One of the main goals on Tesla's AI roadmap is the integration of parking, backing out of parking spaces and reversing.

At the "We, Robot" event Tesla a Robotaxi prototype (a Model Y) that could reverse independently and even perform turning maneuvers. A video from AI DRIVR on X shows the vehicle reversing at the event.

FSD V13 impressively demonstrates the progress Tesla's AI team has made in developing new functions. In addition to reversing, parking was also presented, with the Robotaxi gently pulling out of its parking position. These functions had been expected for some time and show that Tesla keeps its promises.

Outlook: What does the future hold?

Currently, FSD V12.5.6 has been available to early access testers for about a week, and FSD V12.5.5 has already been rolled out to most Cybertrucks. It seems that the next major version to be widely available could be FSD V13 - with a host of new features.

As well as the ability to reverse, we are particularly looking forward to the seamless integration of features such as Banish Autopark and Autopark into the FSD system. The coming months promise to be exciting for Tesla-drivers and anyone interested in autonomous driving technologies.
