One year has passed since the official opening of the Tesla Gigafactory Grünheide. The Gigafactory Grünheide was ceremoniously opened with selected visitors and a celebration with music, catering, factory tour and test drives. In addition, a total of 30 vehicles were delivered to the first customers. The handover took place personally by Elon Musk. Brandenburg's Minister of Economic Affairs, Jörg Steinbach, spoke to RBB about the first anniversary and described Tesla as a stroke of luck for Brandenburg.
Steinbach told Rbb24 that more than 10,000 jobs have been created in the Grünheide community. Tesla has also attracted many other companies to the region. However, Steinbach is convinced that he knows that there are also critical voices - but the clear majority still welcomes the electric car manufacturer. "The face of Brandenburg has definitely changed, and meanwhile we have become an attractive location that can offer excellent local jobs to young people," the minister said.
In addition, Tesla has only recently, this March, submitted the first application for the expansion of the Gigafactory Grünheide. Tesla is aiming to produce 500,000 electric cars per year in Grünheide in the first expansion stage, with 12,000 employees planned for this. In the next stage, production is expected to increase to one million electric cars per year.
Tesla continues to face a lot of criticism for its water consumption in the region, because water is already scarce in this region. In addition, even more water will be needed for the next expansion stage. Steinbach is optimistic about this, too: "He says he's convinced that there are solutions here that won't affect individual citizens in any way." In addition, he says, it is necessary to consider how treated water can be used directly in the region in the future - "then we won't have a water problem overall either."
