Tesla Recalls 11,688 Cybertrucks due to windshield wiper and trim problems

Tesla is once again the focus of vehicle recalls. This time it concerns the futuristic Cybertruck, which is being recalled to workshops due to two critical problems. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced that 11,688 Cybertrucks from model year 2024 are affected.

Windshield wiper problems: a potential safety risk

The main reason for the recall is the windshield wiper. Tesla-Customers have reported in user forums about windshield wiper failures that can significantly impair visibility while driving. According to the NHTSA, the problem is due to the electronic components of the windshield wiper motor being overloaded by excessive currents. This overload can cause the motor's control system to fail. Tesla has therefore stopped the delivery of further Cybertrucks until the problem has been rectified. A new motor from the supplier Valeo, which works with lower currents, should provide a remedy.

Cladding problems: a danger to road safety

In addition to the windshield wiper problem, there is another recall concerning the trim on the loading area. A 10 to 20 cm wide plastic cover between the outside and the loading area of the vehicle could come loose while driving. This loose covering poses a considerable risk to other road users. Tesla has provided instructions for the correct attachment of this cover in the service manual.

Previous recalls and ongoing problems

Back in April Tesla had to recall almost 4,000 Cybertrucks due to problems with the accelerator pedal. The pedal could come loose from the bracket and was therefore fixed in place with an additional rivet. These recalls are part of a series of problems that have accompanied the Cybertruck since its launch. Previous Tesla-models could often be repaired remotely with software updates, but this is not possible with the Cybertruck's physical problems.

Customer feedback and future measures

The recalls are based on customer complaints and reports in online forums. Tesla has responded to the complaints and is working to replace the affected components free of charge. The e-car manufacturer now faces the challenge of ensuring the reliability and safety of the Cybertruck in order to regain the trust of its customers.

The Cybertruck, which has been on the market since the end of last year, has established itself as an iconic vehicle, but has been repeatedly criticized for technical problems. With the current recalls Tesla, that they take the safety of their vehicles and the satisfaction of their customers seriously.
