To kick things off Tesla day of free charging for all e-cars on November 6 - an offer that will not only benefit Tesla-drivers but also other e-car owners can take advantage of.

A milestone for the charging infrastructure in Europe

The Supercharger network is one of the largest and best-developed fast-charging networks in the world and is now available to all electric vehicles in Sweden. Previously Tesla opened the network to other e-car brands in the Netherlands. With Sweden as the second country in Europe and a similar initiative in South Korea, the Tesla, that they are seriously working to improve the charging infrastructure worldwide and drive forward electromobility as a whole.

This decision comes as no surprise, as Sweden and the surrounding Nordic countries have a high number of e-cars per capita. The high acceptance of electric vehicles in Sweden and the steady growth of this market segment make it an ideal location for Tesla's expanded network.

Free charging to start - how it works

At the start of the opening on November 6, all e-cars can be charged free of charge at the Swedish Tesla-superchargers free of charge. A fee of SEK 104 (approx. CAD 13.44) will be reserved as security on the payment method at the start of charging, but will be refunded at the end of charging. This applies to all Tesla-models and all other e-car brands that can use the charging infrastructure with a compatible adapter.

Tesla emphasizes that charging for nonTesla-vehicles just as easily as for Tesla-vehicles. In the USA Tesla has also announced that it will support all EV brands with an adapter at the Superchargers and has entered into partnerships with car brands such as Ford, Rivian and General Motors.

Tesla and the growth of the Supercharger network

With over 60,000 Superchargers worldwide Tesla operates one of the largest fast charging networks. The continuous expansion aims to provide e-car owners with the most worry-free journey possible. Tesla's network is known for its reliability and dense coverage, which is crucial for many EV owners. Especially in Sweden, which already has a high number of electric vehicles, this expansion can help to further increase the general acceptance of electric mobility.

Looking to the future: Will the grid be opened up in other countries soon?

The success in Sweden and the Netherlands could influence Tesla's decision to open up the Supercharger network in other European countries too. In the USA, the situation is somewhat different, as Tesla mainly used its own connections so far. With the introduction of the North American Charging Standard (NACS) for several partner brands, a broader network opening could soon become a reality there too.

This is good news for EV owners worldwide. The ability to access a standardized, reliable and well-developed network could significantly increase the attractiveness of electromobility.
