Tesla presents Powerwall 3 at the Intersolar in Munich
Tesla has unveiled the latest generation of its solar storage system, the Powerwall 3, at Intersolar in Munich. This innovation expands the company's existing product portfolio and underlines Tesla's commitment to sustainable energy.
Modern energy supply for households
The Powerwall 3, which follows the Powerwall 1 (2015) and Powerwall 2 (2017) models, has already reached over 600,000 installations worldwide. This new version can reliably power most European households with just one unit. By storing excess solar energy generated during the day, the Powerwall 3 can use this energy at night or when grid electricity prices are high. This allows German customers to reduce their dependence on the electricity grid by up to 95%.
Savings and emergency power supply
Time-based control allows owners with time-of-day electricity tariffs to set their Powerwall to charge from the grid when prices are low and use the stored energy when prices are high. On average, owners can save up to €1,981 per year by powering their home with the Powerwall 3 and solar energy. The Powerwall 3 also offers an emergency power function that is automatically activated during power outages.
Improved performance and efficiency
The Powerwall 3 offers more than double the power of the Powerwall 2, enabling it to power homes of almost any size. The integrated inverter can deliver between 3.68 kW and 11.04 kW in Europe and thus operate various devices. Thanks to an integrated solar inverter, the Powerwall 3 improves energy efficiency through DC coupling, which simplifies installation and eliminates the need for an additional inverter.
The new thermal management system, based on findings from the Tesla Model 3, enables first-class performance at temperatures from -20 °C to 50 °C. The robust design of the Powerwall 3 also ensures reliable operation in extreme weather conditions and high humidity, as well as flood resistance up to 60 cm of water.
Integration into the Tesla-ecosystem
The Powerwall is fully integrated into the Tesla-ecosystem and can be conveniently accessed via the Tesla-app can be controlled. In combination with Tesla-vehicles, the Powerwall offers additional charging functions, such as PV surplus charging. Off-grid charging is also possible, which further reduces costs.
The Powerwall 3 is now available in Germany.
Technical details and availability
The solar storage system can be connected directly to solar modules and has a capacity of 13.5 kWh with a peak output of 13 kW. The integrated inverter can deliver up to 4.6 kW single-phase current and offers starting currents of up to 185 A. The Powerwall 3 is 101 cm high, 60.9 cm wide, 19.3 cm deep and weighs 130 kg. The warranty period is 10 years, provided that the Powerwall is reliably connected to the Internet during operation. The storage system can only be ordered from certified installation companies.
Presentation at the Intersolar in Munich
Tesla Energy will present the Powerwall 3 at Intersolar in Munich from June 19 to 21, 2024 at booth C2.231.
*Savings are based on the average German Powerwall customer with an 8 kW solar system and a Powerwall 3, assuming typical consumption and PV yield (approx. 8,200 kWh and 8,000 kWh respectively) and actual electricity tariffs (€0.30/kWh + fixed costs). Actual savings may vary depending on location and energy requirements. Future electricity tariffs are estimates only and may vary.
