Back in the middle of the month, there were reports of the Cybertruck's production being curtailed in the Tesla-factory in Texas. In mid-April, it was announced that delivery of the Cybertruck had also been temporarily halted - for a week. Even then, the loose pedal cover was cited as a possible cause. An official document from the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows that all Cybertrucks produced between November 13 and April 4 are being recalled. The NHTSA attributes the recall to possible problems with the accelerator pedal that could lead to unwanted acceleration. The cause is an accelerator pedal cover that can come loose and get stuck in the pedal area. According to the NHTSA Tesla will replace the pedal assembly free of charge and personally notify owners of the affected vehicles.
This action affects a total of 3,878 vehicles and is the first glimpse into the production numbers of Cybertrucks, as Tesla has not previously published any such information. Although Tesla's annual report theoretically envisages an annual production of over 125,000 Cybertrucks in Texas, the company is currently still far from this target. According to Tesla the first Cybertruck is scheduled to roll off the production line in July 2023, although it is unclear whether this is already a model destined for customers. The first deliveries of the model were made at the beginning of December 2023.
