A good 3 months ago, the new Tesla Gigafactory in Grünheide near Berlin was officially opened. The first few weeks it was difficult to deliver, processes had to be optimized, there was a lack of employees and parts for production were scarce. Most recently, deliveries of the batteries that are important for electric cars failed to materialize due to the lockdown in Shanghai. But this gap was quickly closed. In mid-May, production in Grünheide was still around 86 Model Ys per day, extrapolated to five working days per week, this means around 400 Model Ys per week. In mid-May, 500 employees were added, allowing Tesla to start a second shift. With this step alone, production was apparently almost doubled.
Last week, CEO Elon Musk published an email in which he announced that Gigafactory Grünheide is now producing almost 1000 Model Y a week. The mark of 1000 produced Tesla Model Y was then reached in the last week. This was announced directly by a Twitter post from Tesla. To see a dozen Tesla employees, in between a black Model Y and the number 1000.
This can also be observed in the number of vans that transport Tesla Model Y from Grünheide. More and more full white and black Model Y Performance vans are being spotted. In countries that report their new registrations daily, an increase could also be observed. In the past few weeks, around 800 Model Y from Grünheide are said to have been registered in Norway, more than twice as many as last May. But before the end of this year, a third shift is to start in Grünheide in order to ramp up production further. In the future, Tesla would like to achieve an output of around 500,000 thousand vehicles in Grünheide.
