Still before the announcement of the profits for the year 2022 in the earnings call, Tesla announces that it will expand the Gigafactory in Nevada by a production facility for 4680 cells and for the Semi. For this, they will invest around 3.6 billion dollars, Tesla writes in its blog. Here we give you a brief insight into the history of the oldest Tesla Gigafactory and, of course, what Tesla is planning for the future.

In 2014, Tesla committed to invest $3.5 billion in Nevada. The goal was to build a plant capable of producing 35 GWh of battery cells annually, enough to manufacture about 500,000 vehicles per year. This level of battery production was unprecedented for a single plant at the time, and the expected production was greater than the entire global battery production in 2013 combined. Along with other on-site suppliers, Tesla planned to hire 6,500 full-time employees over the next 10 years to build and ramp up Gigafactory Nevada. Since 2014, Tesla has invested about $6.2 billion in Nevada and built a 5.4 million-square-foot Gigafactory. The construction alone has created about 17,000 local jobs to date.
Looking forward and continuing to expand Gigafactroy Nevada, Tesla will invest more than $3.6 billion to continue the growth of Gigafactory Nevada, hire 3,000 new team members and build two new factories. A 100 GWh factory for 4680 cells (with capacity sufficient to produce batteries for 1.5 million vehicles per year) and the first high volume semi-factory.
