At the end of the second quarter, a new internal email from Elon Musk shows how things are currently looking in the various Tesla gig factories. Important information is that Elon Musk has been providing initial information on the current production capacity since the official start of production at the new Gigafactory in Grünheide. As early as mid-May, it was leaked out that around 86 Tesla Model Y Performance were built per day in the Gigafactory Grünheide, i.e. around 400 vehicles per week with the current five working days. Since the end of May, to be precise, since Monday, May 23rd, 2022, production has been going on in two shifts at the Gigafactroy Grünheide. This finally seems to be having a positive effect on the production figures. Most recently, according to current reports from Electrek, Musk wrote to all employees on June 12, 2022 that almost 1,000 cars were produced in the Gigafactory Grünheide in one week.
Elon Musk also wrote in his email that this was a tough quarter, especially the major supply chain and manufacturing issues in China had a negative impact. On the positive side, production in Shanghai has returned to full strength, but Tesla needs to catch up on the large gap created during the lockdown.
But the Gigafactory Freemont was also praised in the mail because, according to Elon Musk, it had set a new production day record since opening last week.
