Elon Musk plans production of a 25,000 euro electric car in Grünheide and announces higher wages!

On Friday, November 3, following an AI summit in London, Elon Musk also visited Gigafactory Grünheide and announced important future prospects and further information for the employees in production. The announcement of the production of a completely new entry-level electric car, which is to be built in Germany from 2025 and will have a price tag of 25,000 dollars before tax (approx. 23,300 euros), caused quite a stir.

The original plan was to produce this low-cost electric car in Mexico. However, according to recent statements by Elon Musk, the production location could change. Instead of Mexico, Tesla's future entry-level model could be produced in the factory in Texas, USA, which is due to open in 2022, or in Grünheide, Germany. Tesla is also expected to produce an entry-level model in China, although specific details are not yet known.

The new electric car will be based on a next-generation platform with a particular focus on autonomous driving functions. Musk emphasized that this platform is less complex than that of the new "Cybertruck" pick-up truck, for example, which is not available in Germany. The main aim is to simplify production and achieve a production speed never before achieved in the automotive industry.

With regard to the design of Tesla's new entry-level model, Elon Musk promises that it will be "cool" and "beautiful" without neglecting functionality and cost efficiency. The focus is on creating a vehicle that takes people from one place to another, without excessive luxury, but with a clear focus on functionality and suitability for everyday use. This concept is intended to make the electric car affordable and attractive to a wider audience.

Elon Musk also announced the good news that the employees in Grünheide will receive more money from November. The increase will initially be 4 percent for all Tesla employees in Grünheide and will come into effect in November. From February 2024, annual salaries in production will increase by a further 2,500 euros. According to Tesla, this will result in an increase of up to 18 percent within a year and a half, after wages at the Gigafactory were already raised by 6 percent in mid-2022.
