Tesla Cybertruck owners complain about rapid tire wear

Tesla Cybertruck owners complain about rapid tire wear

Tesla is the focus of criticism, as Cybertruck owners are reporting extreme tire wear after just 10,000 kilometers. Some drivers are already being forced to replace their tires, which were specially developed for the model. The enormous weight of the vehicle could play a key role here.

Cybertruck tires wear out faster than expected

Some Tesla Cybertruck owners are disappointed: after only three months and 10,000 kilometers driven, they are reporting severe tread loss on their tires. According to a post in the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, the tires already need to be replaced. The affected owner sees this as a possible manufacturing defect.

The Cybertruck is fitted with either Pirelli Scorpion ATR all-weather tires or Goodyear Wrangler Territory RT off-road tires. A measurement by the driver showed a tread depth of 3 mm on the front tires and 4 mm on the rear tires. New car tires usually have a tread depth of around 8 to 9 mm. In the EU, the legal minimum tread depth is 1.6 mm, but earlier replacement is recommended in particularly wet or snowy conditions.

Weight as the main factor for wear

With a weight of over 3 tons, the Tesla Cybertruck is heavier than many other vehicles, which could explain the increased tire wear. However, this problem does not only occur with Tesla owners of the Rivian electric pickup also report similar experiences.

The owner who reported the wear stated that he rarely used the powerful "Beast Mode" and mainly drove on country roads and highways. Nevertheless, the weight and power of the Cybertruck seem to have a significant impact on tire wear. One possible solution could be the "chill mode" of Tesla which reduces the acceleration of the vehicle and could thus minimize wear. However, whether this will help in the long term remains questionable.

Will it become a mass problem?

Tesla has not yet commented on the reports. As more and more Cybertrucks hit the roads, it remains to be seen whether this is an isolated problem or whether rapid tire wear will become a widespread problem with this vehicle model. Owners worldwide are watching developments with interest.
