Top marks for the Tesla Model Y manufactured in Grünheide in the Euro NCAP crash test evaluation program. In the current testing, the Tesla Model Y received a 5-star safety rating. In addition, Tesla boasts the highest overall score of any vehicle tested to date using Euro NCAP's latest and most rigorous testing procedure.
The Tesla Model Y scored 98 percent in the Safety Assist category. This category assesses a vehicle's ability to avoid accidents, minimize injuries to occupants and bystanders outside the vehicle, and prevent lane drift. The adult occupant protection category scored 97 percent, and the child occupant protection category scored 87 percent. This is also a very high level given the rigorous testing process. The institute rates pedestrian safety at 82 percent.
The new vision-only system, which works exclusively on a camera-based basis without radar, was also evaluated. The testers make the following statement about this system: "In the Euro NCAP route test, the pure vision system of the Tesla Model Y performs better when it comes to avoiding collisions with other cars and cyclists and pedestrians remarkably well,” “Congratulations to Tesla for a truly outstanding, record-breaking assessment of the Model Y. Tesla has demonstrated that they only do the best, and we hope they continue to strive for that goal.” In addition, Euro NCAP publishes an overview of all test scores in the Euro NCAP Safety Assist Score in the years 2020-2022, where the Tesla Model Y is in 1st place.
(Note: Some known models were tested before 2020 and are not included in this listing)
Tesla itself reacted to the statement as follows in a press release issued yesterday: "The results of Euro NCAP show on the one hand our general commitment to the safety of our vehicles, on the other hand specifically the effects of the recent improvements that have been made for all variants of the Model Y were introduced. These include, for example, increased stability through a special rear floor casting, the implementation of intermediate seat airbags, multi-collision braking and the driver monitoring and collision avoidance system."
