Ashok Elluswamy's career path at Tesla
Ashok Elluswamy has been part of the Tesla-team for almost 11 years. He started his career at Tesla in January 2014 as a software engineer in the Autopilot team. In this early phase of the Autopilot program, Elluswamy was instrumental in the launch of the first Autopilot version.
Rise to Director of Autopilot Software
After two and a half years as an Autopilot Software Engineer, Elluswamy was promoted to Senior Software Engineer in June 2016. His dedication and expertise led to his promotion to Senior Staff Software Engineer in September 2017. In May 2019, he reached the milestone of becoming Director of Autopilot Software, a position he held until his recent promotion.
Responsibility as Vice President of AI Software
In his new role as Vice President of AI Software, Elluswamy leads a team of engineers responsible for the further development of Tesla's self-driving technologies. He plays a central role in the development of the Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, particularly following the departure of Andrej Karpathy.
Successful "We, Robot" event
A highlight of his work to date was the "We, Robot" event organized by Tesla. There, the company presented the latest advances in autonomous technology. Elluswamy confirmed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that 19 Cybercabs and 29 Model Y vehicles were equipped with the nearly completed FSD v13 software. During the event, these vehicles safely guided over 2,000 guests on 1,300 rides without incident.
