Actually Smart Summon coming by the end of 2024 for older Tesla Model S & X

Tesla has officially confirmed that the long-awaited Actually Smart Summon (ASS) feature for older models by the end of 2024. Model S and Model X vehicles will be rolled out. This function enables Tesla-owners to remotely maneuver their vehicle out of a parking space, further enhancing the convenience and ease of use of the Full Self-Driving (FSD) package.

What is Actually Smart Summon?

Actually Smart Summon is an extended version of the original "Smart Summon" function. It was released as part of the 2024.27.20 software update, but initially only for Tesla-models with the new hardware versions HW4 and HW3. Vehicles produced before 2021 were previously left empty-handed and could only use the outdated version, the so-called "Dumb Summon" function. This led to frustration among many owners of older Model S and Model X vehicles.

Good news for older models

Now, however, there is good news: Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla's Autopilot Director, has confirmed that the ASS function will also be available for older models in the fourth quarter of 2024. Model S and Model X vehicles will be available. This is an important update for owners of Tesla-models produced before 2021, and especially for vehicles manufactured before 2016 and equipped with the older MCU1-technology (Media Control Unit).

Challenges and improvements for older models

Tesla-Vehicles produced before 2021 have older hardware components such as MCU1 (with NVIDIA processors) or MCU2 (with Intel processors). Vehicles with the MCU1 had difficulties integrating newer software features because the outdated hardware is less powerful. Models with the MCU2built between 2016 and 2021, however, offer more support for advanced features such as the Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta program and soon also Actually Smart Summon.

Tesla's commitment to older vehicles

Although there are technical challenges, Tesla's Tesla this update shows once again that the company is committed to keeping older vehicles at the cutting edge of technology. This emphasizes Tesla's philosophy of extending the life of its vehicles through regular software updates and thus maintaining the long-term utility value of its products.

Conclusion

For owners of older Model S and Model X vehicles, this is welcome news, as they will also be able to benefit from the Actually Smart Summon-function from the end of 2024. Tesla shows once again how software updates are a decisive factor in the long-term success of its electric vehicles and that even older models will not be forgotten.
